The 5th Science Conclave-cum-National Biomedical Research Competition (NBRCOM) 2024 was held from 1st to 3rd December 2024 at the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, in collaboration with the Special Centre for Molecular Medicine (SCMM), Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi. The event was organized under the aegis of the Society of Young Biomedical Scientists (SYBS), India, with the goal of promoting interdisciplinary collaboration, knowledge exchange, and scientific innovation in the biomedical sciences.
The conference was spearheaded by several leading figures in Indian academia and healthcare. Prof. M. Srinivas, Director of AIIMS New Delhi, served as the Chief Patron, with Dr. R. K. Tyagi from JNU as Co-Patron. The organizing committee was led by Dr. Vijay Hadda from the Department of Pulmonary Medicine, AIIMS New Delhi; Prof. Umesh C. S. Yadav from SCMM JNU; and Dr. Rohitash Yadav, President of SYBS India. Their joint efforts ensured a meticulously coordinated event that reflected high academic and organizational standards.
The Conclave featured over 650 participants, including researchers, doctors, scientists, and students from across India. A total of 500 research abstracts were submitted across three major categories: Pharmaceutical Sciences, Life Sciences, and Health Sciences. Participants engaged in oral and poster presentations, providing a dynamic platform for showcasing cutting-edge research and fostering scientific discussion.
The Inauguration Ceremony, held on 2nd December at 9:00 AM, was graced by Prof. Randeep Guleria, President of AIIMS Bilaspur and former Director of AIIMS New Delhi, who served as the Chief Guest. Several esteemed Guests of Honour also participated in the inaugural session. These included Prof. Y. K. Gupta, President of AIIMS Jammu (Pharmaceutical Sciences); Prof. Subrata Sinha, President of AIIMS Patna (Health Sciences); and Prof. Vibha Tandon, Director of CSIR-IICB, Kolkata (Life Sciences). Their insights and presence underscored the national significance of the conclave and inspired attendees with their vision for the future of biomedical research.
The Award Ceremony, conducted on 3rd December at 5:00 PM, marked the culmination of the three-day event. The ceremony was presided over by Prof. Rajiv Bahl, Director General of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), as the Chief Guest. He was joined by notable Guests of Honour: Prof. Rakesh Bhatnagar, National Science Chair, Government of India and former Vice-Chancellor of Banaras Hindu University (Life Sciences); Prof. M. Bajpai, Vice President of the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (Health Sciences); and Prof. T. S. Rao, Senior Advisor at the Department of Biotechnology (Pharmaceutical Sciences). These distinguished leaders awarded the top researchers and offered encouraging words to the young minds contributing to India’s biomedical progress.
A total of Rs. 9 lakh in cash prizes were distributed during the event. The Young Researcher Awards were given to the top five ranked winners in each category for both oral and poster presentations. Additionally, participants ranked from sixth to tenth received Best Presentation Awards, recognizing excellence in research and innovations. These awards provided not only financial incentives but also national-level recognition to the recipients, encouraging further pursuit of research excellence.
Overall, NBRCOM 2024 was a resounding success, serving as a hub for scientific dialogue, innovation, and networking. The event reinforced the critical role of young scientists in addressing healthcare challenges and advancing biomedical sciences in India. The organizers extended heartfelt thanks to all the dignitaries, participants, collaborators, and volunteers who contributed to the event’s success. The conclave left a lasting impact on the participants and set a new benchmark for future editions of NBRCOM.
